Dating Safety Policy

Meeting someone new should feel exciting, not risky. Here's how we help keep Connections safe — and how you can look after yourself.
1. What we do — and its limits
Connections is Dear Cupid's music-based dating service for adults aged 18 and over. We check profile photographs before other members can see them, ask every member to confirm their age, act on reports and let you block anyone.
Please understand the limits of these checks. Age confirmation is self-declared. We do not independently verify every member's identity, and we do not carry out criminal record or background checks. Photo checks look for unsuitable content; they do not confirm who someone is. No dating service can guarantee that every member is who they say they are or is safe to meet, so please use the advice below.
2. Fictional profiles during the beta
While Connections is in beta, some profiles are fictional sample profiles created by Dear Cupid for testing. These are clearly labelled as fictional. They are not real people, you cannot meet them, and any replies from them are generated for testing. Real members' profiles are never labelled this way.
3. Authentic profiles and photos
- Use your own first name and honest details, and keep your photos genuine and recent.
- Your main photo must clearly show you as the single, recognisable main subject, with your face visible, and be approved before your profile can be published. People in the distant background are fine; photos with other prominent people are checked by a person. Additional photos can show your interests.
- Be cautious of profiles that seem too good to be true, have very little information, or whose story keeps changing.
4. Romance scams and money
Never send money, gifts, gift cards, cryptocurrency or bank or card details to someone you have met online — however convincing their story. Common warning signs include:
- declaring strong feelings very quickly;
- always having a reason not to video call or meet;
- a sudden emergency, travel problem, medical bill or "investment opportunity";
- asking you to keep the relationship secret or move to another app straight away.
If this happens, stop replying and report the member. In the UK you can also report fraud to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or at actionfraud.police.uk.
5. Protecting your personal information
- Keep your surname, home address, workplace, phone number and social media accounts to yourself until you trust someone.
- Be wary of photos that reveal where you live or work.
- Never share intimate images. If someone threatens to share images of you, do not pay — report it to us and to the police.
6. Respect and consent
Everyone has the right to say no, to stop replying, to unmatch or to block — at any stage. Respect it. Pressure, persistent contact after someone has said no, or sexual messages that weren't welcome break our Acceptable Use Policy.
7. Recognising manipulation and coercion
Be alert to anyone who tries to isolate you, makes you feel guilty for setting boundaries, pressures you to meet before you are ready, or tries to control who you talk to. If something feels wrong, trust your instincts. In the UK, Refuge's National Domestic Abuse Helpline is available on 0808 2000 247.
8. Safe first meetings
- Meet in a busy public place and arrange your own travel there and back.
- Tell a friend or family member who you are meeting, where and when, and check in with them afterwards.
- Keep your phone charged and stay in control of your drink and belongings.
- Don't feel obliged to stay. You can leave at any time.
9. Reporting and blocking
Use the Report option on a profile or in a conversation if someone behaves inappropriately, asks for money, or makes you feel unsafe. Reports are private and are reviewed by a person. You can also block any member: they are not told, and they will no longer be able to contact you on Dear Cupid.
To raise a concern directly, email info@dearcupid.app. We are not an emergency service and do not monitor reports around the clock.
10. Emergencies and support
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 in the UK or your local emergency number.
